The principal aim of Religious Education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to tackle questions raised by religion and belief. Students should see the subject as inter-disciplinary and will recognise the nature and purpose of Religious Education (and philosophical enquiry) as a continuously evolving discipline. Students will develop the skills of critical thinking, meta-cognition, analysis and evaluation. In doing so they will gain knowledge of a range of world views and belief systems that will facilitate them in forming and understanding their own viewpoints and values. Informed by the range of units and reflecting on their own experiences, students will recognise the practical implications of Religious Education and connect their studies to their own context and life.

GCSE Religious Education

Students will be challenged with questions about belief, values, meaning, purpose and truth, enabling them to develop their own attitudes towards religious issues. Students will also gain an appreciation of how religion, philosophy and ethics form the basis of our culture. They will develop analytical and critical thinking skills, the ability to work with abstract ideas, leadership and research skills. All these skills will help prepare them for further study.
