Studying at The Spires College
Ethos and Values
We aim to foster a genuine passion for learning in our Sixth Form students and a deep enthusiasm for their chosen subjects. Lessons are designed not only to prepare students for exams but to inspire them to go beyond the specification, building rich, meaningful understanding.
Teaching in the Sixth Form encourages academic curiosity and critical thinking. A culture of mutual respect between students and staff creates a learning environment similar to a university seminar, where thoughtful discussion and debate are central. These conversations allow students to explore ideas in depth, share their interests, and develop both subject expertise and valuable cultural capital that extends far beyond the classroom.
Supporting Independent Study in the Sixth Form
We are proud to offer a strong network of support to help students make the most of their time outside the classroom. At the heart of this is our full-time Learning Support Mentor, a non-teaching member of staff who is available throughout the day to provide tailored support during study periods. Working with students individually or in small groups, the Learning Support Mentor offers guidance with study skills, organisation, revision strategies, and personal wellbeing - supporting students wherever they need an extra boost.
Alongside this, we have dedicated Study Support Teachers who help students develop effective independent learning habits. They work closely with students to ensure study periods are purposeful and productive.
To support all aspects of learning, our Sixth Form offers a range of high-quality study environments, including a fully stocked, specialist Sixth Form library, well-equipped computer suites, and a variety of social study spaces. These facilities ensure that students have everything they need to study effectively, collaborate with peers, and manage their workload successfully when not in lessons.
