Art and Design (Fine Art) A Level
Subject: A-Level Fine Art
Hours taught per fortnight (KS5): 9
The Fine Art curriculum enables students to enhance their knowledge, understanding and creative practice within a broad variety of mediums and movements. With the opportunity to curate and exhibit their work, the demand for independent practice, team working and the active pursuit of personal creative passions are essential aspects of the subject. Academic reading is interwoven throughout the curriculum as students study historical and contemporary practices, enabling them to contextualise professional practices as well as their own artworks. Developing new skills while grappling with movements and concepts, the subject demands high levels of rigour, determination and an avid interest in the visual arts as students explore and critique the creative sector. The subject is enhanced by the opportunity to research, respond and explore key skills that are demanded of creative practitioners as well as the development of knowledge and skills required for further education and vocational routes in the creative industries.
