Sixth Form

Geography A Level

Subject: Geography

Hours taught per fortnight (KS5): 9

The KS5 Geography curriculum at The Spires College will broaden and extend students’ geographical knowledge, understanding and skills, following their experiences at KS3 and KS4. Our topics aim to engage students critically with real world issues and places, and to apply their geographical knowledge, theory, and skills to the world around them. We want our students to grow as independent thinkers and as informed and engaged citizens, who understand the role and importance of geography as one of the key disciplines relevant to understanding the world’s changing people, culture, places and environments. We also want them to have the understanding and desire to influence the world for the better. Investigation through geographical enquiry and data analysis are of significant focus throughout the KS5 course. While studying the topic areas below, students will undertake four days of fieldwork in a variety of different environments in addition to planning and conducting their own independent geographical investigation.
