Sixth Form

Philosophy A Level

Subject: Philosophy

Hours taught per fortnight (KS5): 9

The Philosophy curriculum provides students with an opportunity to grapple with some of the major issues in Philosophy that consider the very core of existence. Exploring themes around morality, what it means to be a human and metaphysics, students will be pushed to think critically and develop their understanding and use of logic. Students will recognise the nature and purpose of Philosophy as a continuously evolving discipline. Students will develop their own philosophical position, informed by the taught units and reflecting on their own experiences. Students will recognise the practical implications of Philosophy and connect their studies to their own context and life. They will develop the key skills of critical analysis, evaluation and reflection. The curriculum is supported by academic reading that will prepare them for higher education and help them develop their own academic writing.
